Café Bankeråt is the original bohème café and bar in the heart of Copenhagen. Tucked into Ahlefeldtsgade 27 in Indre By, it's been running since 1992 — long enough to have become a proper Copenhagen institution, though it would never call itself one.
Step inside and the first thing you notice is the interior: eclectic, artist-designed, layered with over three decades of characters, objects and small acts of creative chaos. Nothing matches, and that's the point. The room feels like it was built by the people who spent time in it, because in many ways it was.
The atmosphere is come-as-you-are — the kind of place where very different people somehow end up at neighbouring tables and it all just works. Good drinks, honest food, live music, and no dress code beyond showing up as yourself. Bohemian punk at heart: unpretentious, warm, and a little wild.
